Tucson’s Skyline Gets a New Icon: Arizona’s Tallest Mural in Progress
Downtown Tucson is about to become even more vibrant, thanks to local artist Joe Pagac and his latest project—a massive 153-foot mural of a saguaro cactus. When completed, this stunning piece will be the tallest mural in Arizona, towering over 11 stories high on the Transamerica Building in downtown Tucson.
A New Landmark for Tucson
Commissioned as a beautification project in partnership with Rio Nuevo, Pagac’s mural will be visible from multiple angles throughout the city.
What Will It Look Like?
Unlike some of Pagac’s more whimsical works—like his famous biking animals mural—this piece will be a classic oil painting-style depiction of a towering saguaro, blending seamlessly into the Tucson skyline. The base will feature prickly pear cacti, creating a stunning desert scene.
Where Can You See It?
Driving south on I-10, look to your left.
If you're in North Tucson, you’ll be able to spot it in the distance.
Walking through downtown Tucson, the mural will be impossible to miss!
Currently in Progress
Pagac is painting the design from the bottom up using scaffolding. The mural is expected to be finished in just a few weeks, bringing even more character and color to Tucson’s growing public art scene.
Tucson has always been known for its vibrant culture and artistic spirit—and this new mural is another reason to love the beauty of our desert home!
